Yep automatic weapons and hand grenades are a riot. But on a couple of occasions I had the opportunity to see Puff the Magic Dragon. The Air force had a bombing range on the next mountain over from our radar site. Puff would make a firing run and the side of that mountain would be a cloud of dust. Boy would I like to fire just one of them mini-guns…

I’m sure that Peter, Paul, and Mary really appreciated that it’s nickname was Puff the Magic Dragon. It was probably really hard to stick flowers down the gun barrels on those mini guns.

Actually as I remember everyone just referred to it as Puff. Why would anyone add the “the Magic Dragon” to its name is beyond me. I guess it is better than calling it Jane Fonda.

It definitely had a distinct sound, it sounded like a fart hence the name Puff.

The story said that the VC called it the dragon. That’s where it probably came from. Anyway, awesome killing machine. Awesome, meaning OMG WE ARE ALL GONNA DIE! I can’t even fathom being on the receiving end of something like that! (pooping pants emoticon)
