I have a question for you guys. I have a friend that’s going to look at a boat with a 1999 Evinrude 4 stroke on it. My first question is Evinrude did make a four stroke for a few years didn’t they? Also have you heard of any issues with the Evinrude 4 strokes? Thanks!

That would be a Suzuki in evinrude clothing. Suzuki is arguably the best outboard motor built currently.
May 6, 2009 at 9:29 pm #7745211999? I thought the Johnson/Suzuki 4 strokes didn’t start til 2002 with BRP? My 2001 Evinrude 15hp 4 stroke is OMC.
May 6, 2009 at 10:12 pm #774528It’s supposed to be 1999 4 stroke. so if someone knows they didn’t make em in 99 please let me know. I’ll tell him not to drive 6 hours to look at it. Thanks guys.
May 6, 2009 at 11:20 pm #774537I had a new 2000 Evinrude 15hp, it was a Suzuki and was a good motor/kicker.
May 6, 2009 at 11:36 pm #774540We have many 70 HP Evinrude 4 stroke motors sold. No problems with them. Very nice engines.
May 7, 2009 at 5:41 am #774645I think they call those the “FICHT” line- a copy of the suzuki motor. These were suppose to save OMC but were not a hit and had a short run before they went out of business for about a year when Bombardier purchased the Evinrude name.
May 7, 2009 at 2:16 pm #774725The FICHT was a 2 stroke outboard, not a 4 stroke. They were not made by Suzuki.
May 7, 2009 at 2:27 pm #774734I’m sure I just don’t know where to look but I can’t find anything on a 1999 Evinrude 4 stroke. Sampson did they make em in 99? or where they just the Ficht models?
May 7, 2009 at 4:32 pm #7747981999 Evinrude 70 HP 4 stroke Model E70PL4EE. They made the 4 stroke 70 until 2001, then it turned into 75 HP Evinrude FICHT 4 cyl.
