Question for heating guys out there–I have a 24′ x 26′ cabin with a propane force furnace with electric ignition–well it works most of the time–but now and then when themostat kicks in it will try lighting 3 times and after 3 times it resets for 1 hour and wont try to reignite til then–question is why?? would reason be theres no fresh air intake?? thanks for input

I would try a new flame sensor.

Take a Brillo pad and clean flame sensor off first before you buy new one also look at the position of where the sensor. Where the flame hits it, a little tiny adjustment goes a long way flame sensors usually don’t go bad per say unless someone gets a little rough In your furnace

It is going into a lock out fail safe so the gas does not billed up in the firing chamber. If the piolet light, lights and the main burns fires for a few seconds then shuts down its the flame sencer

Flame sensor is exactly what the name describes, it senses that a flame is present and if it does not sense the heat from the flame it will shut everything down to prevent dangerous conditions. Look into the combustion chamber and where the flame is look for a metal bar that a flame should be pointed at and touching. That is the flame sensor (thermocouple in technical terms). Take some steel wool, scotchbrite pad, or really fine sandpaper (sometimes even an eraser works) and clean it up real well, (if it looks like it needs to be adjusted so the flame hits it better now is the time to do so by slightly bending it into position)then take some rubbing alcohol to get all dirt and oils off it. Restart the furnace. Ensure the flame hits the sensor evenly and the furnace runs properly , if not it may be time to call in a pro.
