how do I catch a bowfin

    Fish shallow weedy backwaters or lakes where there are a lot of small sunfish with your choice of lure or bait – they’ll hit anything. Be sure to take a sturdy long nosed pliers, and don’t bother trying to use a jam spreader to unhook them – they’ll just snap their jams shut on it and your finger if you try to reach in their mouth.

    Like others have said, I’d be more interested in ways to NOT catch them…

    I mainly sight fish for them, shallow bays year round. A sturdy rod with heavy braid, texas rigged something (black/blue), sturdy hook. they will spook but get that lure in front of them quick and they will roll on it. set hook hard and hang on! my guess for really big ones, thick cover, maybe try some sort of live bait… good luck!
