Fouled Cranks

The last few times out pulling leadcore there has been alot of loose vegetation floating in the water. It seems we spent all of our time cleaning cranks. As soon as you got the rods set the vibration was gone and the bait was fouled.

I’ve heard some folks put a crawler harness blade up the line to catch the weeds before they get to the bait or even just a bead.

Anyone try this? How well does it work. Any other ideas to prevent this so we can spend more time fishing and less time cleaning baits?

    Thanks for the help,

    Dave

Usually use a small split shot, bobber stop, or swivel. Works great! When the Cottonwood fuzz gets real bad, I’ll even set the rod holders so the rod tips are under water, that helps too!

I’ve never really tried any of that mainly because I normally troll shallow and use braided line. With the braid I can shake off nearly 100% of the weeds by jerking the rod tip a few times.
