I have a friend going to the North Shore Two Harbors/Gooseberry Falls Area this weekend and wanted to do some fishing.

Are any of the tributaries holding fish still? Did they spawn in the rivers and head to the lake already or are there populations that stay in the tribs?

    Small spinners or rapalas?

    Any info appreciated-thanks!

The odds of there being any lake run fish in the rivers around Two Harbors is pretty slim. If he were to go up towards Grand Marais the odds would be better, but not real great. That being said the rivers all sustain a population of native trout that can be caught on the typical trout tackle (spinners, small raps, worms) and you never know if that late run spawning fish is still hanging around.

Not to far inland from Two Harbors is a lake called Wolf that may be a good one to give a try. If I remember right some slab crappies, the most golden walleyes you have ever seen and of course some large northerns. Not much of a landing unless the dnr improved it. Lots of trees sticking up in the water but if you stay between them you can motor a long ways. Use a slip bobber around all the stumps for crappies. Bring mosquitoe repelant. Lots of good lakes around Duluth area. Steve
