A few years back we had a real good trolling bite over the flodded cat tails. I was wondering if that bite still exists and what the best time of the year is to get in on it.

The flooded cattail bite does not exist any more since the cattails have decayed. They are under 20 feet of water. There may be scattered fish roaming the flat near Minnewaukan relating to the submerged humps a little but by and large what you experienced is no more.

Trolling the “Golden Highway” can be productive at times but it is not as good as when the cattails offered habitat and the exposed trees on the “Maddock Ridge” have settled.

This system is in a constant state of flux due to the “aging” of the flooded vegetation. Each year is different and offers new challenges. You can go from the worlds greatest to a complete idiot overnight. Here you are never as great as you think you are nor as bad as you feel. It’s like the weather in North Dakota…if you don’t like it… wait a few minutes and it will change. (It will get windier and colder)
