Does anyone know what set of rules Foster Arends follows as far when trout are in season in that pond?

Same regs year ’round… 3 trout, 1 can be larger than 16″.

*must have stamp to keep fish

But you don’t need one to fish for them?? That seems odd…

No stamp needed just to fish. Possession of trout requires the stamp though. Foster is a real popular place for people to take kids to fish as a family thing. There are bass, crappie, sunfish, perch in the lake too and since the trout are a put-take fish only those persons keeping the trout are required to be stamped for such.

I fish the lake often just for kicks. I like spinners and Rapalas personally but also do well on cast and retrieved jig/plastic baits too. The lake has some brutish trout in it but they tend to shy away from the shorelines until well after dark.

What would be the best way of going after the trout from a canoe?

Any way you want. Cast lures, cast bait….the trout will hit if they’re in the mood to eat.
