I’m thinking that it may have to do with presentation and scent. Natural bait = natural presentation and scent. I have used plastics in the summer, not dragging but pitching, with success.

Somewhere in the walleye world dragging plastics works in the summertime–but on pool 4 seems colder the water the more you don’t need livebait and warmer the water the more you need livebait.
With all the guiding James and Dustin have done on the river, equating to hours logged, it would be a rare day to see them using plastics in the summertime.
Odd as it seems, the odds with warm water seem to lye in the direction of livebait–could simply be a natural bait competes better with all the fresh, abundant, very much alive forage the system supports during the warm water months.
