I trolled the Gold Coast for about 3 hours after work last night. I hit the water at around 7:00pm and started looking for fish. I found tons of baitfish, but couldn’t locate any decent marks. I set up in 40 fow, dragging spoons on 20 jets at about 120′ back, and started to working my way back in. I couldn’t buy a bite. Just before dark I switched over to cranks. I put out a Reef Runner Ripper (White Perch) 100′ back and a Reef Runner (Purple Demon) 60′ back. The only hit of the night came on the Purple Demon during a turn in 21 fow. It turned out to be an 8.5 lb Walleye. I swung back around to try the same area again, but another boat that was drifting saw me catch the fish and moved right into the line. That was it for the evening. It was a weird night, no White Bass, White Perch, or Sheepshead. With all of the baitfish in the area I would have thought that there would have been a lot more fish, both target and non-target species. I guess you never know.
