I had a couple of hours of free time on Friday, so I decided to try the Rocky for some Steelhead. I was fishing in the evening and fished until dark. I went 2 for 5 on the day. One was a spawned out female about 6 lbs. and the other was a male that went aound 7 lbs. Both fish were pretty beat up from the mating game. Of the three that I lost, one was a Skippy that looked to be about 14″ long, one that was in the 20″ range jumped once and threw the hook, and the last one I never saw, it just bit and ran snapping my line as it went.
All the fish came on spawn sacks(pink or white) drifted beneath a float. I was fishing a deeper hole that had a set of riffles just above it. I figure all of the fish were drop-backs.
It won’t be long before the season will be over and I will be hitting Lake Erie for Walleye and Smallmouth.
