When tip up fishing, and you are using the circular “cover the entire hole” tip ups, make sure that when you pack the snow/ice around the edge of the tip up (to insulate the hole better) that the flag post itself is clear from this snow/ice mixture. It is easy to partially cover the flag with this wet snow, since the flag is very close to the ice, and if the flag is allow to set for long enough it will freeze into the insulating snow, and thus lose its signaling purpose.
