Went out Saturday night south of Green Island, La Crosse, overnight. Should have come in by 11 pm tho’. Got two nice flatheads on bluegills up on sand flats in 10 ft. of water next to current. But nothing after that till 3 a.m. Then I got thump-thump on both poles. Set the hook, pull the weight then nothing. Could not set a hook. Bit my bluegills in half tho. Finally when I could see by morning twilight, I figured it out. Whatever would hit the bait and run it on the surface. It had to be gar, because nothing else would hit any bait. They must have cleared out the entire area. But the weather was great, no bugs, a little light pollution from the city, and the occasional fireworks. The one flathead was about 28″ pre-spawn and the other about 20″. If you smell catfish frying down to Wildcat Landing at Brownsville some Sarurday night next to an ’88 Mallard Class C, drop in. One more note, I lost several cats because they wouldn’t swallow bluegills larger than 4″.Pete
