white slab crappie or black crappie

    i think its a white crappie-white crappies have vertical stripes and black crappies are darker and more spoted-what do think it is?? heres 20 sec better look, click here –white or black crappie —–caught some nice crappies on friday and this one well -W or B………..it was about 13 1/2

    I think it’s a black. Whites to me have longer head more tapered head. Just my $.02.

    It’s really simple to identify black and white crappies.
    Just count the number of dorsal spines in the dorsal fin.
    If it has 7 or 8, it’s a black crappie.
    Six or less, it’s a white crappie.

    what i can see it looks like a black crappie, but Joel is exactly right on with counting the dorsil and anal spines,

    Sometimes its very hard to tell these fish appart these crappies were caught on bullshoals didn’t even realize we caught a black crappies till we got back
