Decided to accept an offer from MGM Rewards for two free round trip tickets from Green Bay and a four night stay at Beau Rivage in Biloxi, MS. We do a lot of trips to Vegas and thought we’d give the Gulf Coast a try. This trip is 2nd week of Oct. Anyone have any experience with this area? My wife hates all types of seafood, but I’m looking forward to some fresh local stuff.

Its a nice area. There isn’t a ton of stuff there, but its right on the water, casino is decent and plenty of places for all types of food.

Free round trips tickets, you can’t turn that down. BTW Waffle house every 40ft there haha.

No, but you do have to spend a fair amount of money at MGM properties in Vegas. We’ve been there eight times since Jan 2022 and my wife went two more times without me. We paid for our room at Bellagio the first two trips and it was comped every other time. They paid for our airfare round trip once and also comped a 5 night Royal Caribbean cruise to Cozumel and Grand Cayman. I had no interest in that, so my wife took her friend. Biloxi sounds nice in Oct and maybe I’ll look into a day trip with a charter captain.

My gal and I did that same MGM thing about 4-5 years ago and had a great time (no timeshare!). There is a bus that drives around to all the different casinos. The Beau Rivage has a Bellagio look and is the nicest. Hard Rock was cool to check out and Peppermill, IP and some others on the bay were ok. There are some decent restaurants, mostly seafood and BBQ focused outside of the casinos. You can drink on the streets, heck, you can even drink and drive (as long as you arent drunk) in MS. Fun slushy/daquiri bar was across from Beau. The casino pool is great and right on the gulf. The water isnt clear, Mississippi river makes it a bit cloudy. I guess folks love fishing there, but we didnt get out on the water. Check out Ocean Springs to see if they have anything going on, next town up the coast and we had a fun day there as well…right across the HUGE bridge. Remember, it is SEC country, so if you are there on a Saturday, everyone will have their jerseys on. Finally, if you get bored in Biloxi, Nawlins is less than an hour drive.

Not only would trip to New Orleans need to be comped, but they would have to pay me to stay more than a day.

That city is by far one of the most disgusting cities I have ever had to stay in for work. And unfortunately, I was there twice, one was right before Fat Tuesday for the Bassmaster Classic and another was a promotional event for Red Tourney. We stayed in the French district both times and I tried to distract myself the best I could, but it was impossible.

But I know many enjoy that type of environment. I was even in my late 20s at that time and still hated it.

I don’t think New Orleans would be my cup of tea either. In all the times we’ve gone to Vegas, we went to Fremont St once and I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. We walked from one end of the Viva Vision screen to the other, I called up an Uber, and we went back to center Strip. We were about halfway through when I told my wife that we were getting out of there as soon as we got to the next street. She doesn’t mind that type of crowd and went there both times she went to Vegas without me. Her friend hated it, too, but she and my sister had great time.

I’ll be honest, I do agree with you mostly, but Circa has the best sportbook I have ever sat foot in. Plus, they scan every ID that comes through the doors, so it keeps the unproductives(Rick and Morty Reference) and underaged from coming in.

I’m not sure what you go to Vegas for, but if you like sports betting, then I would give Circa a try. We’re staying on Fremont(Nugget) in Nov for the F1 race, mostly because you couldn’t find a hotel on the strip for less than a small fortune. But we will be spending most of our time on the strip.

I mostly go for food, booze and a little slot play, in that order. I don’t follow sports so I don’t bet on it. I don’t have the budget for $15+ per bet table games, either. I’m probably more of a Fremont or Flamingo property person on the inside but it’s sure nice to stay at a fancier place when it’s comped. I’ve gotten pretty educated on where to eat or drink and where it’s going to cost an arm and a leg. I brought my 26yo nephew on his first trip to Vegas back in April. We’re going back in a few weeks for his bachelor party trip. Helped him get a better deal on two adjoining rooms for him and 5-6 of his friends. My wife and I will be on a different floor and don’t plan to be partying like I did in my 20’s. He was ready to take a nap at 330PM on day 2 of our Apr trip, so he’s probably not going to be hitting it hard with his buddies the whole time. He couldn’t keep up with his 50yo uncle, but I’ve had years of practice.

My wife and I stayed at the Linq during our last trip, and I gotta say I was pretty impressed. We got a pool side room, which may things even better. They’re part of Caesars hotels.

Yeah, it’s tough to beat the food selection. Just throw a dart at the wall for what you’re interested in and it’s a short walk/stumble from where you are.

I always make the longer walk to the Peppermill for breakfast at least once. Awesome French Toast. My wife also drug me to some Japanese joint at Cosmo(I do really like that Hotel) and it was superb. I can’t for the life of me recall the name, but you basically can order small plates, like tapas. About the only place I avoid like the plague on the strip is Margaritaville.

Was it Momofuku? We’ve only eaten at China Poblano at Cosmo. It was pretty good. We usually hit Sadelle’s in Bellagio for breakfast at least once during our trip. Noodles and Snacks are decent lower cost restaurants. The rest of the eats at Bellagio are way out of my budget. Miracle Mile Shops across the street has a few places with cheap meal specials. There’s always a daily stop at Fuel Bar in front of Bally’s (now Horseshoe). Two VERY stiff cocktails for $15. Dirt Dog and Istanbul Mediterranean have great food. We always hop an Uber to Chinatown at least once. Sushi Neko and Shang Artisan Noodle are two of our favorites with great prices. Best tip for cheaper drinks for walking around the strip is a tall boy from Walgreen’s, ABC Store or CVS. Oh, and can’t miss hopping the free tram to Aria to get one of the best smash burgers I’ve ever had at Posh Burger. I’d say the only disappointing meal we had was at Border Grill in Mandalay Bay. It’s owned by a couple OG Food Network ladies but the Border Brunch unlimited tapas was very underwhelming.

Hmmm, wasn’t this supposed to be about Biloxi? I guess I’m allowed to hijack since I’m the OP?

Momofuku is David Chang’s restaurant, he is famous chef that puts fun spins on stuff….very good stuff!

Scarpetta and STK in Cosmo are bomb as well. All Aria restaurants are amazing. Julian Serranos and Jean Georges are top imo. Also good is Il Mulano and Joe’s Stone Crab in Caesars.

    I’m getting hungry…

Yes, it was Momofuku. She brought me there after a long day of college football where a strung out 3 parlays. Then foolishly let it all ride on the vikings covering the spread against the Chargers.

Haha, one of the first things I do is buy a 3 stringer of 24ozers from Wallgreens/CVS(depends which side of the strip we’re staying at), they used to be $9.99. I would stash the 3rd in the wife’s purse with a koozie on each end.

I was a Biloxi cop for 10 years and was there when the built the Beau Rivage in the 90s. That city has changed a lot. If you get a chance, eat at Mary Mahoney’s. It is close to the casino in Biloxi.

Great food, and the place has been there forever.

    Enjoy!

I think I had the stuffed flounder, very good and neat old restaurant…it seemed haunted!

Thanks for the tip. Just what I was looking for. In doing some research, there’s a casino to the west called Treasure Bay that has AYCE crab daily and lobster Tue, Thu and Fri. Just under $50. I’ve only had crab and lobster purchased in the Chicago area at a New Year’s family gathering, so it was likely far from fresh, and I didn’t think it was very good. Since I knew it was expensive I just let everyone that was loving it have at it. I do enjoy lobster and crab pastas and bisque. It’s called Infinity Buffet. Anyone try this place before?

I forgot to give an update after our trip. I was pretty underwhelmed. We never left Beau Rivage because my wife tore her meniscus in Sep walking across Las Vegas Blvd. Food was average or below in quality, other than the peel and eat shrimp, which was honestly the best shrimp I’d ever had. MGM gives a 10% discount to veterans. Each place we ate or drank at in the resort told us this would be taken off when we checked out. By the end of our trip we’d charged over $600 to the room. The front desk said that wasn’t right and she’d make sure to tell those places, but there was nothing she could do about the bill, even after calling someone. My wife marched right into the casino to the MGM rewards desk. The lady poked around in the system and asked my wife to go back to the front desk to get a new receipt. She had comped our whole bill. This made up for it, but the whole experience made me not want to go back or recommend it to anyone.

Wife was supposed to go back to Beau Rivage with her friend on Sat evening. Offer was $199 per person for roundtrip air and four nights. Flight from GB was to depart at 7:30PM. At 3:41 she got a text the flight was delayed until 10:45PM. At 7:20 she got another text saying it was cancelled altogether. A rep called her and said she can book another offer for 4 nights fully comped with $150 free play. I’ll pass on going along if she decides to go.
