I’ve always fished the river for smalljaws. Was curious if Sandy has a fishable population or is it more needle in a haystack type deal?

I personally heard its few and far between however if you can find them, they are big.
Have one hanging on the wall from Big Sandy I caught allmost 30years ago now,was 4 1/4lbs if I remember correctly.Wouldnt have one that size mounted these days but I was a young kid and had adults kinda pushing me to hang it on the wall, didnt hurt that I didnt have to pay for it either. At the time I was told they were rare to see out of there.
There are more and more of them every year. 14-17 inchers every year. But much like Sandy what you find one day is gone the next.

I hadn’t caught too many of them until last fall when I found a few decent ones on offshore structure while looking for walleyes.
appreciate the info guys. sounds like it wouldn’t be a total waste of time poking around out there.
