I’ve got a few old hexagonal/octagonal metal fishing poles. I think they’re pretty cool. Are they a collectible kind of thing? I have no idea if they’re actually worth anything or not.

I have my Dad’s metal telescoping fly rod.

    To me, it’s beyond priceless.

I know I’m not answering your question, but it sure kicked off a bunch of good memories.

They can be but they’d need to be squeaky clean and intact: complete and unblemished handle cork, no bends, and all of the agate guide rings in place and un-cracked. Not many like that any more. Value would be set by the collector.

What years did they make metal fishing poles?

Last time I looked at them the eyes and handles on mine are in really good shape.

Late 1800’s until about 1930 would be my guess. The oldest rods will have soldered on eyes. In the oldest rods the guides were ringed with cut agates. Glass was used about the turn of the century forward with some overlap between the two.
