I just wanted to post a quick ice update. First I want to say we have a wide variety of lake depths in the area, so depending on the lake the ice varies greatly. There are a number of lakes with 3-6″ of ice and there are also lakes with a great deal of open water, so make sure you know your lakes.
It’s hard to believe we were fishing comfortably out of a boat only a week ago!
I checked out the north end of your home lake yesterday but didn’t have a chisel with. Looks pretty tempting though.

Well we haven’t made much ice in the last week, but any lake with walkable ice still apears to be in good shape. Now with these cold temps we should be making good ice. By the weekend there will be plenty of lakes in the area with walkable ice. 
Hopefully the snow holds off.
