Icing crappies!

Spent the Thanksgiving day and a few after with Mom up near Aitkin. As usual, we were stuffed along with the turkey.

Luckily, I threw in the auger, rods, and ice tackle. The grouse were nowhere to be to found even though conditions were perfect weather-wise.
Saw nobody on the area lakes. Well, had to check the ice. Drilled a hole and measured with the scoop handle…6 inches and even a little snow on top.

Found crappies in deep water. Daughter Hannah loved watching them come up on the Vexilar and smack the red, jigging spoon tipped with larvae.

Hannah timed us…we caught 15 crappies in 15 minutes at one point. She is a fish catching machine.

“Dad, you just tease them like a cat with yarn.” She’d pull it, drop it down, yo-yo…fun to watch her get the rhythm down.

Drove past Mille Lacs and there was several wide open area of water near Myr Mar. Careful out there!
