Nice fish , I usually don’t fish for them until June and July. Catching catfish up in northern Minnesota is a new thing . I started catching them on my walleye baits around four years ago . The fist one I caught i was shocked and terrified I was going to get stung by this monster , probably a twenty three inch fish. I drug it to shore and used some pliers to release the beast. I found out later the old ones spines are dull and don’t normally get you. Now I fish them maybe a half dozen times a year on the river south of grand rapids with cut bait, they are a blast, and tasty, I’ve found a couple cajun recipes on line and the family loves them. Quite a surprise that they just started showing up and the size was surprising.

September 10, 2020 at 9:13 am #1971527Nothing huge, but here’s a couple of the cats caught in the last few weeks pulling cranks. The flats and channels have been on a tear recently crushing cranks at anywhere from 3-4 MPH downstream in the current. Oddly enough I haven’t caught one going upstream.
