I have a lund 2025 with the sport trak, and was going to try drilling into the plate instead of drilling into my boat. Has any tried that and worked well?

Im talking about Lake Wissota, Each time i have went we dock out of the south end of the lake and fished around there with not much luck, just a few northerns. Was wondering what technique i should be using this time of year and what kind of spots i should be trying, not looking for any secret spots, by no means.
