    Kooty,

IMO there is no better round than Hevi-Shot for Turkey’s. My nephew shot his 1st bird last year with a 20 guage and folded the bird at 25 yrds no problem. It was a 25lb bird with 10 inch beard. Also think about getting a extended double x full turkey choke as well if your gun will accept screw in chokes.

    Randy,

That is interesting. I just bought a Nikon Monarch 3 2.5x10x42 with BDC recticle. I liked the advertising they have done on the BDC and their Spot On technology with their website and APP for spot on. I cannot wait to try out the new scope and put the BDC with Spot on to the test and see how accurate it is.

I agree Jon. Christmas morning pheasant hunting is my favorite time of year to hunt. It is also my last hunt each year and has always been very special to me.

    Kooty,

Birds were in thick cover with lots of pine trees. Birds were actually roosted in the trees and were flushing out of them.

    Whittsend,

I have not been on a guided hunt in wisconsin for ducks, until this year. My dad and 2 brothers are going on a full day hunt on November 1st on the Mississippi River with: http://www.addictedriverguiding.com/hunting.php

I’ll post a report after our hunt. Hoping to get some Bull Cans or Redheads!

    Jack,

I have a 7mm Remington Magnum and have compared it to other rounds like the 7mm WSM or the 270 WSM. If I were you I would be looking at a 270 WSM. Getting a 7mm WSM ballistically does not get you any advantage over a regular 7mm Remington magnum. The 270 WSM is one of the few calibers that actually has a ballistic advantage over the standard caliber of its own.

I picked a bullet type and grain weight that was very similar and did a comparision on the Federal web site. Take a look and see what you think. I think you will like the 270 WSM.

    Gobbler,

Looks like a wolf to me. My Dad had a wolf walk by him this year while hunting in Chippewa County Wisconsin. We herd of other sitings around there as well.

    Thanks Brad!

The best part of where I got him is that we could drive our Yamaha Rhino right to him and wasn’t too far from the barn.

That is a huge buck Brad. Sometimes that is the way it goes. That same thing happend to one of my brothers a few years back during an antlerless season and had a big 10 pointer just a few yards away from him and he couldn’t do anytything but watch the huge beast.

Good luck the last few weeks of the season!

Depending on the wind direction and available cover, do you have an opportunity to close the distance? Belly crawl slowly and see if you can get a little closer. If not, then maybe wait it out. I don’t hunt with a slug gun, but 150 yds seems a long way and if you shoot now and miss it is all over. Tough situation to be in. Good luck!!!!! Hope to see pictures soon

    Kooty,
Some nice bucks during daylight hours. You better get there this weekend before they change their patterns.

    Ruger,
I shoot a Browning BAR 7mm and shoot the Barnes XXX and have had great results from them.

My brothers and Dad shoot the Winchester E-tips and have had a lot of good results from them and shoot very accurate. Plus I was looking at the bullistics of the e-tips VS the Barnes and they are a little better I believe. Next time I need to buy a box I am going to try them out.

My Brother tried the Hornady Superformance GMX and could not pattern them worth anything and went back to the Winchester e-tips.

I do agree with you Ruger, since I have switched to the all copper bullets, they do devastating reults on whitetails and will never go back to lead.

I cannot tell by the 1st picture, but it looks like ther may be a stream behind there in the treeline. Just make sure if it is a stream, water running or not, you make sure that it is ok from the DNR.

I have a stream on my Da’d property that is dry 99% of the year and mostly only runs in the spring or when there is heavy rain fall. We talked to the DNR about building a pond, but they call the stream a navigable waterway and would not let us build a pond where we wanted to.

    Kooty,
I went to Cabelas in Rodgers this weekend and to the Gander Mountain in Eden Prairie and both of them were sold out fo the Smith and Wesson. Both said they had more on order, but do not know when they will come in.

    Bob,
The Ruger LCP can be purchased with a Crimson Trace Laser, but is priced a lot higher at $548 MSRP. It also is only Blued alloy steel versus the SW which is stainless steel with a melonite coating.
