Tell Fred thank you! That is great. I was up this past Sunday (evening) and took everything off the shelves. It should be ready to move.

I have 31st off from work, so maybe I will need to come up Friday AM. I’ll try to catch Fred on the phone.

    Thanks again!

Hey Red Door, do you think you will be pulling any houses before Christmas? How is it looking?

If we keep putting on .5 inches per day, I would think sometime next week we should have good drivable ice.

Looks like the deep freeze is going to be over for awhile. Weather.com is showing single digit low and mild highs for the extended outlook.

So two things took me by surprise today…

1- Weather.Com is predicting -25 tonight for Aitkin…That should put on an inch or two of ice..

2- A resort on the North side says they might start pulling houses this Wednesday…That seems a little crazy to me especially when they are reporting 7.5’’ of ice in some spots…I’m sure you can get a truck out there with less than recommended ice..but what about the houses flooding out and the roads flooding out. Crazy.

I was in Onamia on Sunday, looked like there was about 6 inches of fresh snow in the drive way.

With the wind out of the south all day on Sunday I hope it blew all the snow to the south side of the lake. I got about 10 MPG driving up north on Sunday morning, that wind was bad, I couldn’t imagine what it would have been like out on the lake with a portable.

Looks like it is going to stay cold until about Wednesday.

I got my fingers crossed the snow stays south of the lake….

Looks like they are still forecasting colder temps for Sat-Mon. Hopefully we can put on a couple of inches of ice.

Red Door do you think there is any chance we have houses out before Christmas?

It all depends on snow fall/temps. One thing for sure is that we never rush it. Not only for safety-sake but also going on marginal ice thickness causes major flooding around the big houses and in the end, more headaches for house owners than a couple days extra of fishng is worth.

I’m completely with you…been there done that with the water.. I hate it.. If I don’t have good ice under my house, I don’t even want to drill holes, flooding stinks!

Any chance we could get a ice update later today? I’m trying to gauge the amount of ice we are putting on. We are starting to get a little snow in the cities as of 9am today.

Did anyone happen to have checked the ice today? I’m curious to know at what rate we are putting ice on…

If we keep putting on 3/4 of an inch a night, it is going to be around 17 more days before we have drivable (trucks) ice on the north side.

Long range forcast shows we might have some sub-zero nights coming soon…

The extended forcast looks like colder temps but I dont know if it is could enough.

How much snow do we have on the ice on the north side?

Hello Red Door, the buzz around the office (work) is Ice Fishing! Adam G and I are excited to get out this year, Adam is really excited about his new house. I’m trying to convince Uecker to bring the “Flat Tire” house back up.

I’m curious to know what the update is tomorrow morning. From what I have heard there was no ice on the north side, except for a small amount on the shore line yesterday. I’m curious to know if the wind comes down tonight, looks like some colder evening temps coming.

As long as the weather forecast doesn’t change, it looks like a good setup. I think it is for the better we don’t have ice yet… if this wind stays down and we done get snow we should be sitting good. Smooth ice!!

    Cant wait… Mitch

Hey Red Door, was there a brave sole willing to check the ice this this AM? What did this arctic air do? I’m seeing -25 this AM again, man that’s cold.

Stuff just stops working when it get this cold out side.

Wow, I can’t believe the temps up north right now. I’m in Onamia, and at 8pm it was -15 already. I would think the lake is going to be making some noise tonight. With -25 predicted tonight, and tomorrow night.

I’m interested to see how much ice the lake puts on..

I got a good amount of experience with the switch over, as I don’t have cable in the cities, I’m using the off air HD but I have DTV in the fish house. I put an antenna in my attic and the neighbors attic and I found that the signal is very, very directional, within a couple of degrees I can get all stations, or non. Use a compass to get you close, then you the signal meter built into your new TV to dial itin. I’m able to pick up every broadcasted signal, and I’m like 35 miles from the tower in shore view (crow flys).

Use antennaweb.org, and it will tell you which antenna you need to have to get both the UHF/VHF, and the distance you are from the tower.

This winter I was going to bring up the “Square shooter” and mess with it on the lake, and see what I can pick up, using a new HDTV, so no converter boxes. I found a big loss of signal in the converter box hook ups.

It does look like there is ice making in the forecast starting tonight and goning into the weekend, I don’t think yesterday, or last night did much. Doesn’t look like it got cold enough, but we’ll see what the Red Door finds today.

Hey Red Door, if you get 12 inches by Sunday will you start pulling, or will it be a slower process, needing to open roads and stage the houses, etc.? I’m debating taking Monday Off work.

If you want cheap you can find it (south side), if you want something a little nicer I would look North to the Red Door.

In the city’s (South Metro) I hepled a friend that wouldn’t listen to my advise to wait till after the snow to put a small shack out on a local lake. The house was sitting on 10 inches of ice. We got out the house Friday afternoon, and the house was in 10 inches of water.

We plowed the snow away from the house with a ATV and had to move it. The water was coming up fast. We had to plow snow out, and move it about 300 yards away…No new holes where drilled…

Not worth putting houses out and dealing with water on top o the ice if you ask me.

Looks like your going to be getting the most snow out of anyone! Not what I was hoping for. There looks to be some cold air coming behind the snow, but we are going to have alot of insulation on the lake now.

Hey Red Door, are we still optimistic for the day after Christmas to start pulling houses? When I was out on the East Flat on Saturday and Sunday I was finding a good 9-10’’ of ice, I really hope this snow misses the north side of the lake.

I’m seeing temps in the sub zero range, and a light wind this AM for the north side of the lake..Well atleast the computer tells me that…

Mid-day, the big winds still have the main portions the lake wide open but it’s gradually skimming over closest to shore. Sub-zero temps the next few nights and less wind will do the open water in and we expect to having at least walking ice by the end of the weekend or surely early next week.

Although cameras or people might show and report other parts or bays to be iced over, as the title to this thread
conveys, we are reporting what the conditions are on or from a view-point of the NORTHERN portions of the big lake.

We will continue to report the real conditions. The good, the bad and the ugly. For safety reasons, “optimistic” versus real is how we will report from the northern sections of the lake-exclusively.

    Thanks Red Door…

Sounds like there is a chance I could be fishing the first break this weekend..
