I was doing some looking at lakes up in northern mn for panfish surveys and noticed that lakes with whitefish really don’t survey well for panfish. Is this something you have experienced fishing them? Maybe the lake structure makes sampling panfish tougher?

Most lakes the have a good Whitefish population will be deeper and cooler and panfish do better in shallow warm lakes. Most of the panfish in those lakes run smaller but those are the lakes that will have some nice Walleye, Northerns and Muskies.

That would make sense. I would assume slower growth rates for panfish then too?

Lots of Tullie lakes that are good crappie lakes, somewhat similar fish-guess Whitey likes it a bit cooler, and maybe more infertile.
