Wabasha area wing dams

I have some time this week to fish. I was thinking about trying the wing dams down by Wabasha. I’m not looking for anyone’s secret spot, but any suggestions about whether to head North of the bridge or South? I haven’t tried this area of the river much. Thanks

    What are you targeting?

Above the bridge probably has more traditional wing dams that hold walleye…however they see heavier fishing and boat traffic. The wing dams below the bridge see considerably fewer anglers in my opinion but there are still fish present. There are some great panfish opportunities if you stumble across schools on the wing dams still. What we’ve found has been the panfish are tighter to shore on the wing dams, and the walleye/sauger are out further towards the channel and take some coaxing.

If you really want to fish the Wabasha area, you will find fish I’m sure. However if you’re open to more areas, I’d personally be working the start of the channel above Lake Pepin for a few miles.
