It sounds like we’ll be prime for that nice Fall action. Thanks for the report Jason. I’ll be there all weekend 10/4 – 10/5. I hope to get out Saturday all morning/afternoon/night and Sunday morning/afternoon. I am hopeful!

Jason,
I noted your comment about FINALLY a minow bite. I don’t care for live bait
much so I use a LOT of plastics. I’ve been doing really well all summer
catching main-lake crappies over 10″. One hand works a 1/16 jig with a 1″
tube, and the other a 1/8 jig with 3″ Gulp minnow. The big crappies really
slurp up the 3″ gulp (fry works too).
I’ve had intentions of going up the Chippewa river looking for more walleye,
but I always get into the crappies and spend my day fishing those.
Last Sunday I went over to the little lake late in the day and did really well
there.
The crappie are literally everywhere. I just cruise around looking for
wood or rock piles in 30 fow or less and I always find something.I probably would catch more walleye with live bait – they seem choosier.

October 8, 2012 at 12:14 am #212289My son was able to make it out in the woods Saturday for his first grouse hunt of the year. Another great day for both us us! We had a great time and a good laugh. Poor guy couldn’t make it back to the truck when nature called. He was ready to take care of business when a dog and two hunters popped out onto the trail Needless to say he pulled us his pants up and hustled back to the truck. I had tears coming out of my eyes when he told me about it.
Anyway this grouse thought he was hiding in the brush but eagle eyes spotted him and put the hammer down! We put up 11 and got 4 (2 juvi-2 adult) so it ranks as one of our most productive trips. It will go down in history for the funny story though.
