Tagged Sturgeon

    Caught a 61 inch Sturgeon last Wednesday while walleye fishing that was tagged. Sent in the tag info to the DNR and just received an email back. Fish was a male, 35 years old and approximately 60 lbs. Originally tagged in 2007 and this was the fourth time its been reported caught. (2010, 2015, 2017 & 2018)

    Very cool! Out of curiosity, what size was is back in 2007 when it was tagged?

    Awesome! I wish more fish were tagged, it’s neat seeing a snapshot of their history.

    That is a really big male if it was actually 60#.

    Thanks, I didn’t weigh it but went off of the chart on the DNR’s website. According to their chart 61 inches, average girth (didn’t measure that either)is 57 lbs., I rounded up.

    Caught a 63″ Sturgeon with a tag this past Sunday and just sent the tag info to the DNR. Can’t wait to get this fish’s history back….How long does it normally take to get the info emailed back?
