Starting battery question

Would have been better off asking before I did it but anyway here goes… The starting battery for my 1998 Johnson 115hp was getting a little dated and I have had trouble keeping two sonar units powered up for a day of fishing and then have been unable to start the motor. I replaced my old Interstate size 24 marine starting battery (it had 650 cca) with an Exide Nautilus size 31 deep cycle battery (shows 1000 cca). Am I going to have problems with using this as a starting battery? Will I get longer use out of my electronics?

    Thanks for your input.

Kind of like a healthy savings account. Always nice to have “extra” in reserve

Nope. Deep cycle is the only way to go. A deep cycle can handle starting a duties much better than a starting battery can handle a deep discharge. I recommend nobody ever get a starting or dual purpose battery. Go right to a deep cycle. AGM is best. Untill recently I have always demoted my oldest deep cycle to the starting battery position. Never had an issue.
