I’m new to underwater cameras and have had my recon 5+ out a handful of times now …. The one thing that I absolutely hate is cable management. Any tips / tricks / products I can buy to help keep the cable together / easily wind up / or let out ?
Try fishing shallower 
It sounds like someone might need a cable turtle. 
Ok all kidding aside, I would assume a larger diameter cable spool would be better than smaller. Obviously it owed take up more cord per wrap.
Problem with that is that you are adding size and weight.
There is an Aqua view for sake on the List right now that has a spool modification on it that may give you an idea of the concept.
First I would take off the hand cord or whatever it’s called. it just gets in the way wrapping up cable. Also, I use mine out of the case. Between those to things, I don’t know how to make winding up the cable any easier.
We all know the spring loaded re winds only work so long.
