Skunked

First trip to Rathbun for open water 05.
Got skunked. There’s a first time for everything I suppose.
It’ll get better though, always does.
FYI, the only courtesy dock on the lake was at Island View.
Not sure what they’re waiting for.
Southfork and Bridgeview are dingy, the rest of the lake is pretty clean.

herb what were you fishing for? crappie, walleye, catfish? i have been meaning to get down there myself soon and give the walleyes and crappie a try. let me know when you hear something.

Crappie. I doubt I work for any eyes till may.

rathbun sure isn’t like it use to be. we use to go there no matter what time of year, catch all the crappies you wanted and throw back anything that wasn’t 10″. sometimes now ya really struggle to get many over 10″. i use to bug those dnr guys out there to put a slot and limit on the crappies. always it was we don’t need one. herb did you fish the bays or troll the main river channels? south fork use to be my favorite, seemed like the bigger crappies came from there, but was always the first to muddy up after rains. also less traffic. most of the big woody snags in south fork were gone last fall. at least the ones i fished. the lake needs to be at least 10″ above normal pool for really good crappie fishing during the spawn.

Southfork and Bridgeview were dirty and I don’t know why, Hasn’t been enough rain to dirty it up.
But I think Rathbun is going to put out some nice fish this year.

Herb, Let me know when the time is right and maybe we can come down with a boat and some people and me you there for some fun fishing and camaraderie.
