Random spotting on deck

Just put the deck up last summer. It’s cedar tone pressure treated. We got a little rain this morning and all of a sudden just today this random spots or staining showed up. Never seen them before today. Any ideas on what causes this?

Did something greasy get spilled in it? That’s what it looks like to me.

That was my first thought was until I noticed it’s just randomly all over the deck and the deck is 16X38

Whatever got spilled on it obviously happened after the deck boards were screwed down

How long did you allow treated wood to dry before staining or sealing? May not have been dry enough. Also could be hard spots in lumber like knots that didn’t absorb the stain. Acidic bird poop? All guesses. I’d look at spots with a magnifying glass and see if that tells you anything. Also try to find reviews on the products you treated it with to see if others had same problem. Good luck.

If you just noticed it now then it likely just happened. Did you move the grill, smoker, or something across the deck recently? Was someone painting recently?

I’d take some dawn soap with water and lightly scrub a couple areas and see if it goes away.

Looks like some solvent was dripped. One of those spots jumps the seam to board next to it. Wouldn’t shock me to have my girls using nail polish remover on the deck.

2-1 it’s the pressure treated lumber seeping. Should wait a MINIMUM of a year.

If random spots appeared over night on my deck, I’d see a Dr. Probably need a shot of penicillin.

Minimum 1 year for what? Its cedartone pressure treated decking, not stained or sealed. It’s obvious it happened after the decking was installed as there is clearly a drip/splash pattern across boards, not random spotting.

I agree 100%. Also, if this decking was new last summer, I see a ton of cracks already forming. It also looks very soft which leads me to believe it’s a cheap Chinese pine with a terrible “cedar” stain which also doesn’t vouch very much for the pressure treating “qualities”. Big box stores are full of crap lumber.

I’d give it a good pressure washing then re-stain/seal when it’s actually dry enough to take it.
