Here’s a new article sent out to us by Turk Gierke, owner and operator of Croixsippi Guide Service, and one of our Pro-Staff Reporters for the St. Croix.

Its a great article and very well written. If you find yourself faced with a tough bite situation or when boat control is nearly impossible anchoring is typically the answer. Check this article out for some insight on how to do it right.

Even though I rarely drop an anchor, I always have one in the boat! More of a safety item than anything else. If you ever have motor problems you will definitely want to stop your drift. The last place you want to be is in the middle of the river channel when a barge comes around the corner and no way to clear out!!

Or worse. Like the case this year where the guy and his gal almost went over St. Anthony falls in downtown Minneapolis because the motor died and would not re-start. Had to get rescued from the boat by the Sheriff. If those folks simply had an anchor, there would have no major problems. Unfortunate for this guy, they just left that boat hanging on the falls. It was a new boat.
