My Minnkota 55 Maxxum bow mount trolling motor 12V was really hot when I went to unplug it on Monday night the plug and wires were really hot. It’s 10 years old and I never remember it being like that even on a hot day. Wind was stiff Labor day night (just prior to storm) so I did have it at full speed about half the time I was out (which might be why it was so hot). It is the original plug and wires it came with.

It is undersized for the 21′ fiber glass boat I have. However I’ve had to push it at full speed many times before when it gets windy.

    Any Ideas?

Connections are starting to corrode causing resistance.

Ed, if you pull the wires out of the motor plug and receptacle, look for significant darkening or even black ends to the wire. FWIW, I had a plug go just short of igniting for this reason.

Hot connection is a bad connection.
