Mille Lacs Regulations Update

Being on shore I will have my pitch fork ready. Catch and release is not prudent to the issue. And who would really be satisfied in one fish to keep, hardly worth heating up the oil. Its a great lake to be on and fish. Try fishing for some thing else. There also should be no netting during spawning season. It will all come back in time, give the Wally’s a rest.

They all may as well shut down.

Rods bait and tackle in isle is closing this sunday, the band bought the baitshop/old restaurant.

Yes, catch one fish and done. Would people do it? I would. As it sits now I won’t spend any time fishing mille lacs for walleyes this year. It would be quite compelling to see how the dnr calculates hooking mortality in the first place. It would put a lot of speculation to bed.

To help the morality rate why not the use of a barb-less hook!

    Amen. Good post!

A question for you Chirs and Jon, or really anyone who finds this situation interesting.

The DNR and the Blue Panel have said that there is plenty of fish spawning and the issue is they are not growing up, most likely due to predation which is most likey from lower baitfish populations. This would seemingly suggest that the nets are not the cause of the issue.

Plain and simple. Is the DNR lying?

Ignore the Blue panel findings. They are based on the data provided by the DNR, they never set foot on the lake.

Late ice outs and a abundance of fish because of a lack of nets would indicate the nets are the problem.

As long as everyone is in cover their a$$ modes we may never get to the bottom of this. In the meantime the economy of the lake will continue to falter.

I just typed out a 1000 word answer to you and the F’n system erased it all when I hit submit. Call me if you want to hear/learn my answer…..it has been posted here COUNTLESS times. WHY do people NOT comprehend or recall what they read and we have to go over and over this time after time?? LOL I am done typing this stuff over and over and over…it is in the archives many times over on many sites–LOL Call me if you FACTUAL answers.

It is, when the facts are laid out, the nets 100 percent…no if’s and’s or but’s. Based On DNR facts/records they do NOT allow to be made public….

this is verified by a friend who was over at Rods
The tribe first bought Meleens in Onamia, now put Rod out of business by buying the building….looks like the tribe is getting in the baitshop business

have your representatives support Sondra Ericksons bill for the state and tribe to abide by the open meeting laws, and record each session…check out her website
    This provides better transparency

I had been under the impression that Meleens let the property go back to the bank. The Mille Lacs band owns the bank. Now whether thats fact or not I’m not sure but it makes sense to me.

Sondra Erickson is in my district. She has talked a good game for many years but has yet to get anything done. So until you get her fellow representatives in St. Paul to get on board you are peeing against the wind. St. Paul is bought and paid for so unless you can pay more nothing will happen. Only a massive PR campaign that hurts the Casinos will get their attention. Get that done during this Big National Bass Tourney thats coming and you get the national exposure.

If half the fisherman called their representatives, they would burn up the telephone system…this is not just about MilleLacs…but about all the lakes in Northern Minnesota….They are looking to go to court over the deer poaching and wild rice lack of permits……we need to push the DNR and the government to do their job and manage for everyone….and /or negotiate
    YOUR LAKE MAYBE NEXT…….

No “maybe” about it if the Band wins the 1855 cases….as they have formally sent the state a list of over 30 KEY/popular walleye lakes that will be open for “Treaty Harvest”.
Seems until it effects people directly, they only talk and not act. Many lived in “denial”/ said “think positive”/”talk positive” at Lake Mille Lacs for years….and the present day mess is where it got them.

Netting was happening in South Long Lake last summer fall. Yes it will happen any where they can get their nets in.

Sorry this is off topic, but the Casino put up the money to bring the BASS event in.
