When people type or text “lol” do they actually laugh out loud? It’s overused in my opinion.

Since people don’t actually talk to each other anymore laughing isn’t real anymore either.
October 2, 2018 at 12:45 pm #1800889Funny thread. A buddy of mine and I used to joke about that, how in reality most people probably glance at their phone with zero expression but type LOL anyway. So he and I used to respond with “LLOL” for “literally laughing out loud” to signify that we actually did laugh.

LOL!
October 2, 2018 at 12:56 pm #1800896I don’t think grown ups should be allowed to use abbrevs and emoji’s.
If we eliminated emoji’s from this site 90% of @nhamm’s posts would go away. That can’t be a bad thing, can it?
October 2, 2018 at 1:03 pm #1800898To me it means something is funny. Less to type than, “that was funny”.
October 2, 2018 at 1:14 pm #1800901“LLOL” for “literally laughing out loud”
I’m using this from now on.
nhammInactiveRobbinsdalePosts: 7348October 2, 2018 at 2:31 pm #1800936In many instances I think “LOL” could easily be replaced with “smirked and quickly blew a shot of air out one’s nose”, since that’s probably what most people do anyway rather than actually laughing.
Since sarcasm isn’t available as a font I think a lot of people use l “LOL” to ease the seriousness of something they’ve said.
B-manPosts: 5356October 2, 2018 at 3:07 pm #1800947I’m like barely a millennial, literally. Lol
But I have some guys at work that are in their 20’s and text me abbreviations that I have no clue what they mean.
So I’ll text them back something like “ITIJPMPAL”
They reply with “?”
I reply, it means “I think I just pooped my pants a little”
jeff_hubertyInactivePosts: 4941October 2, 2018 at 3:35 pm #1800952That’s deeper than any response I expected. Wow.
Wow?

LOL IDO
October 2, 2018 at 9:34 pm #1800998I have actually never typed “laughing out loud” in abbreviated form. It’s like I’ve made it so long, that if I did it now, the world will end…..
Snake ii’sPosts: 479October 3, 2018 at 5:54 am #1801015Never used it, never will. I hate the stupid acronym $h!t that is used except for FUBAR and SNAFU.
October 3, 2018 at 6:22 am #1801018I rarely use abreviations but
LOL lots of luck getting me to quit using
FUBAR
Not a day goes by that something isn’t FUBAR here at workOctober 3, 2018 at 8:08 am #1801044Not a day goes by that something isn’t FUBAR here at work
So SNAFU?…
October 3, 2018 at 8:47 am #1801064I think the sensible thing to do is to stop using acronyms all in all, unless they are actually accurate!
October 3, 2018 at 8:50 am #1801067What about emojis? Is it logical to pick one that matches your facial expression?

FWIW, IMHO I agree lol.

When people type a question on the internet, are they really asking it?
