I asked what a 5+ foot Sturgeon we caught this week would weigh…

No one knew since they don’t have any scales grin

Of the many many 60″ I’ve caught, the two biggest were 60 & 61#. Smallest 35#.

Were you targeting them or was this just luck? Since the water temp hit over 80 I am stopping for muskies for a bit and was thinking of going after some sturgeon next weekend. Where were you?

Do sturgeon have the same problem with high water temps that muskies do?

We were LOW… but kind of a funny story…

We went out into the mouth of the river towards the lake and water temps were mid-70’s. Of course we were then jigging with medium-light spinning rods for walleyes when the big sturgeon hit. An hour long fight – and all the heavy gear along with the big net were left in the truck!

It was quite a two-man process to land by hand. Thankfully the fish was less exhausted than we were and released well…

Great story FryDog toast I don’t think I will be able to make the trip to Rainy next weekend. Congratulations on the nice fish.
