Wi state record is 18lbs 0 oz

MI state record is 17lbs 3 oz

15 pounder is a nice fish. I don’t fault the angler one bit for keeping his fish of a lifetime. But, 15 pounders are caught every year in door county!

If the angler admits to getting help in landing the walleye, it may not qualify for any record.

The man who caught the world record is also a member here at IDO. His fish was quite the buzz a few years back. He has not posted in a while. I guess the Fathering business is busy-busy these days. Hope all is well!

Not to disagree with you, but do MI and WI have separate records for ice fishing? I understood there are separate records. The only reason I “knew” this is my dad caught a 14 lb 12 oz walleye through the ice, but did not have it officially weighed because he knew it wasn’t the state record. Later on, he found out there were separate records for ice fishing and at the time, his would have potentially been the world record.

Those records are not state records. Those are hall of fame records. They log all kinds of stuff, like line test too. States do not seperate seasons.

I was thinking the same thing, I knew there were some 17+’s caught in recent times and that one that Father Walleye caught was the first one that came to mind.

World record walleye weighed in at 18.30 pounds the previous record was 18.06 pounds. Here is the story with a picture of the certificate.
