Here’s an early season perch caught in front of Schaefer’s on Lake Onalaska. Caught on an orange Little cecil and a waxie. 16″ long and 11″ around. The biggest I’ve ever caught and it’s going on the living room wall! E.

I saw one other perch that looked like that, one time also caught in front of Schaefers. I thought it was a freak and that I would never see one again. You proved me wrong on that one.

Great fish, I’m sure you’ll remember it for years.

Sorry for being away…I was fishing! We went back to Schaefer’s today and did’nt do quite as well. Thanks for all of the great comments! I’m not sure of the weight of the fish as we didn’t weigh it…….maybe a big mistake. It’s at Dan Brown Taxidermy in LaCrosse. He told me it’s the biggest perch he has seen or mounted. Either way, I could get skunked the rest of the season and still be happy!! Let’s go fishing, screw work. E.

That is Lake Onalaska for you, feast one day and famine the next. Congrats on a very nice perch
Lntony who I used to spend a lot of time on the lake with has caught 2 perch on the lake through the ice that were close to 2 pounds and were 16″ or so. The pictures used to be on the wall at Schaefers, but not sure if they still are.
There are some very nice perch in there, but finding them consistently is very tough to do

    VERY NICE FISH!
    Two points –
    1. Next time my wife asks why I need to fish so often – I’m gonna show her the pic:)

    2. Just read an article in the Wisconsin Sportsman magazine on Perch on the upper Mississippi by Ted Peck. A short blog out of the article – “In recent years, we’ve cranked up a perch 16+ inches long”, Short said (WI DNR Biologist). “Scale samples of these fish indicate they are at least 12 years old.”
