Anyone that fished the pond the last couple of years knows that the perch bite on the jumbos has been off. Way off. For those that haven’t been up there yet this year, well, that has all changed. The jumbos are back in a big way! Ok, ok, they never left obviously but at least now you can catch them. Lots of reports are coming in lately of big catches on the “true” jumbos… fish in the 12″ – 14″ range have been common. I caught quite a few pulling walleye-sized plugs during the day over shallow rocks this Sept. and I’m willing to bet this winter we see a return of some great ice action on the sumo perch.
Start thinking about those early ice bookings for the walleye and then a mid-winter trip or two for the perch! I’ve enjoyed many an afternoon off of the deep mud jerkin’ perch and look forward to doing it again this year.
