    3hp solo-

    2.5hp solo-

I could not find Specs on SM website, maybe I missed them.

    Hey Mark

I can help you with the Solo info as I have a spec sheet hand out from SM on this very question. I don’t have anything similar for the Honda but after I post this I’ll see if I can’t dig that up as well.

    For comparison…

    The venerable Tecumseh engine produced the following;

4200 RPMs under load w/ 25:1 transmission generating 170 rpm @ the drill.

    Solo 37cc 2 HP; 8000 RPMs under load w/ 40:1 transmission generating 200 rpm @ the drill.

    Solo 42cc 2.5 HP; 8800 RPMs under load w/ 40:1 transmission generating 220 rpm @ the drill.

    Solo 54cc 3 HP; 9500 RPMs under load w/ 40:1 transmission generating 240 rpm @ the drill.

NOTE – all specs quoted here are based on using a 8″ drill.

    Mark

I sent off a request for this info to SM. If I hear back I’ll be sure to post that info.

For those not familiar with the Solo-powered Strikemaster augers, here’s a pair of videos Strikemaster released for the 42cc – 2.5 HP and 54cc – 3 HP models.

Is it ok to switch my single chipper drill piece for a lazer mag drill piece on a 2HP SM Solo?

It’s gonna be like night and day once you swap over to the lazer drill bit. Get ready to love your auger even more…

100% OK. And if you’ve ever wondered what cuts faster the chipper or the lazer you’re about to be amazed at the difference.

    From SM CS.

The Honda GX35 4 stroke engine is equipped on our new Honda Lite, with either a 8 or 10 inch diameter auger.
This engine produces 9,000-10,000 RPM’s (with no load) and 8,500 RPM’s (under a load/ while drilling)
A 40:1 gear ratio is used in the transmission, (same as all Solo engines)
This gear ratio produces 213 RPM’s (auger rotation per minute/auger bit rpm’s) with 40.7 ft. lbs. of torque.

The Honda is not the fastest model we make, but primary bought for the quietness, low emissions and no need to add oil to fuel. (Since Torque is what will ultimately dictate cutting speed.)
The Solo Lazer will be much faster ( if speed is wanted) as that engine produces 9,000-10,500 rpms with no load, and the 40:1 trans, with engine at 8,800 rpm, under a load creates 220 auger rpms and 59.68 ft. lbs. torque.
