Going to depend on the oil.

I run a synthetic I have left over from my motorcycle racing days at 50 to 1. Oils often range from 20-1 to 100-1. I think you will here guys tend to run them a little on the lean side of an oil’s recommended mix range.

Mine must be 8 – 10 years old with a Tecumseh engine and it’s listed at 24:1.

    24 to 1

You do not want to run this engine any leaner. It was designed to run at 24 to 1 and changing brands or types of oil will not change the engine requirements.

Haha! That’s funny!! My solo says to run at 40:1 but at that mix it burps oil and smokes like a chimney. I run it at 100:1 with amisoil saber with zero issues. Pick up some amisoil and run her lean!

Run it at 50 to 1 and you will be fine. the old tecumsehs say 24 to 1 but i have never seen any issues at 50 to 1. And i also run my solo at 50 to 1 with no troubles.

Do not just run any oil at 24-1.

Mine also says 24-1, and while that is fine for some oils – others will foul and run like garbage that rich. It really is all about what oil you are using. Go to a local store and get a decent oil, read the bottle. If it is a 20-1 oil (most likely mineral based) then run your 24-1 and you are good to go. Synthetic oils for the most part will be 32-1 to 100-1… using the manufacturer’s recommendation. Oil I use is 32-1 to 50-1… I have ran 50-1 for years and it is perfect.

A average sized bottle will last you a long time…. and mixed right, you can use it for weed wackers, blowers or whatever so it doesn’t sit too long. Add a stabilizer, and mix as little as possible at a time to keep it fresh.

Straight from Strikemaster… run the older tecumsehs at 40:1. The auger says 24:1, but Strikemaster says that’s too rich.

X2. I have an ’07 Mag 2000 that I run at 40:1, per D-Rock and hasn’t given me any issues. Smokes more than I’d like it to, but it fires right up and runs flawlessly.

X2 – I just buy the strikemaster oil that you mix with a gallon of gas. I believe its 40-1.
