Make sure to read the Message Kaden’s Mom leaves towards the end.
Over the past week I have truly enjoyed delivering gifts to the Kerkenbush family that many of you have sent or dropped off. Angie is having a hard time keeping them hidden in the room there are so many! Angie and John have enjoyed some food from the Honker and I have seen Carson playing with a GeoTrax toy that someone gave him. Tonight my co-worker Ruth Siefert dropped off a HUGE assortment of Christmas cookies and she included a plate for Carson. Little did she know that Carson had been asking his Mom for cut out cookies! Another wish granted! I’d also like to thank Rose Conway for the gift card to the Honker. Your gifts of prayer have also been received and are helping all of us through this. Kaden watched the Smurfs tonight while Logan and I were out. He was in a great mood when we got back. He was happy to see his sisters! Kaden took another long walk in the halls with Grandma and Grandpa. That little walker has made alot of “miles” the last couple days! Tonight Kaden was standing on his bed (with Logan holding him) and he was swinging his left leg forward and backward and out to the side…with ease…no pain! He was smiling the whole time. Alesha, our nurse, said he was kicking like a Rockette! Can’t wait to show the doctors that in the morning! He also kissed his foot a couple times tonight…pretty easy to get his foot to his face now! How far we have come in one week…WOW! And to be honest, it feels like Kaden has had his new leg longer than just a week. That is credit to Kaden, he has made this so much easier on us just because he is so strong! How do kids get this type of strength? When you’re feeling weak and down in the dumps, just think of the smiling faces of kids that have cancer…and I’m not lying, they really do smile…ALOT! Finally, if you’re looking for a good read, I would suggest Erma Bombeck’s book “I Want to Grow Hair, I Want to Grow Up, I Want to Go to Boise!” It’s a humorous and optimistic view of childhood cancer based on the accounts of kids that are cancer survivors. Remember this…kids with cancer don’t want to see pity on your face, they just want to be kids…so treat them that way! Kaden’s zodiac isn’t Cancer…he’s a Libra! Good night!
Good Job Kaden, you’re an inspiration little buddy.
