I have a Humminbird 859 CI and bought it with the boat. I have never had any issues with it until a couple weeks ago when the screened just turned completely black. I have checked all my cables and the unit still has power as the buttons are still lit up. I have contacted Humminbird to see if they could look at it and they want an arm and a leg just to look over it. Anyone have and suggestions or know what may be the problem?
The only thing I can suggest is to check your battery voltage at the Humminbird connector. It’s a poke in the dark.
I doubt that Humminbird is unusual in their repair costs. I was at a local marine dealer recently and a sign in the shop said “labor rate $119 per hour, minimum 1/2 hour”.

try looking at it in the dark I have set it night fishing before and could not see it to adjust it back during the day screen looked black during the day
