I just purchased a 788ci HD DI combo unit and was wondering if having the speed sensor wheel has any benefits?
It is already mounted on the boat from my previous unit ( 565 ).
    Thanks

788 has built in GPS doesnt it? Should be able to get your speed off that.

IMHO, If you have the GPS, what good does the speed wheel do besides offer another place for those damm aquatic invasives to get stuck and attach to your boat?

The speed wheels are close, but far from accurate for speed anyway. Tested mine before removal and those of many friends against 2-seperate GPS units, the GPS units matched while the speed wheel was off from 2-10mph depending on lake conditions and actual speed.
