I was just looking at the Duluth Harbor cam and its 34 degrees with a stiff wind…. and there are a dozen or more out in the surf surfing. I don’t know what’s dumber, getting caught out on Red Lake in the wind or intentionally getting in Superior with a surfboard.
Definitely not for everyone, but not dumb at all if you’re geared up for it. I think those guys are rad! I’m sure there’s plenty of risk but don’t recall any news stories of them ever not coming home. They know what they’re doing and I think it’s pretty cool to have some hardcore surfers in MN.
I agree with ThunderLund78! If I were a decent surfer, I’d do it.

My Buddy lives in Anchorage. People winter surf there all the time. FWIW I’ve had people think I’m an idiot for drilling a hole in the ice and fishing in it.
You don’t have to be crazy to go surfing in winter, but it helps.

I must miss the 2 or 3 times every year when the surfers call 911 to help them get back to shore.
