Dec 21st out of rogers using Danni from outdoorauthority. Caught this beast that measured 47 in and appx/min of 29 lbs…used a medium walleye jig rod 27 inches with 6 lb test through an 8 in hole…30 min fight…epic…will never catch one this big under these circumstances.

And the walleye fishing for the most part was great…75 between 2 guys in 2.5 days…lots of catch and release with the 16-18 inch walleye class after our limit was reached.

Thanks for sharing, Great catch and story.

Looks like it would be a great wall-hanger, that has been eating his share of Non-Slot Walleye’s and Big Crappies.

Wowzer! Nice gator. That had to be quite the sight looking down the hole at that fish.

yes, this is a fish of a lifetime…as one guy said I might as well pick up quilting and retire the rods cause I may never top it…it took almost 10 min to ice the beast once I saw it at the bottom of the hole…it tangled one of our other dead stick lines which did not allow me to use my reel for the last 15 feet…i didnt have a gaff so I used a couple of different tools to coax his head up but my arm and hand worked the best…wish I had a go pro to share the fight with everyone

That is amazing. If a person ever needed testimony regarding the URL trophy pike protection program, here it is. Some day I hope to catch that fish.

I caught this beast of a pike with Chris Nelson on 12/21/2013. Chris started to have some medical complaints after this trip and was diagnosed with brain CANCER on 02/03/2014. On 02/15/2014, the day after we made it home from Chris’s last wish ice fishing trip to LOTW, Chris Nelson passed away. Chris was one of my best fishing buddies and brother in law. I hope to raise cancer awareness by having a December 2014 ice fishing trip in Chris Nelson’s memory. RIP CHRISN…we will always miss you!
