Money to be made in insurance? Who knew… 😫 Of course these are “for profit” it is exactly like a casino… the odds favor the house… some win big, some win small & some don’t win at all. The question is… do you feel lucky ? 😆

I once asked the Farmer next door if he bought crop insurance, He said “no”.
He went on to say you can either buy insurance every year or never buy it, it all comes out in the wash.
That’s the way I feel about auto warranty, I never buy it and so far would have never needed it.

Now, don’t ask about my cell phone. doah

Lots of loopholes in most of these insurance policies.
Many of them DON’T pay for diagnostics, any type of fluids/freon, towing, taxes, wear items, etc. the list goes on and on. Usually the person or company selling the policy tells the customer it covers EVERYTHING! WRONG!! Most shops hate dealing with them because you have to call before any work can be done. Some limit the labor rate the shop can charge. I always thought dealing with them was a PIA.
I have couple horror stories I can tell anyone if they want to hear them.

instead of buying an extended warranty i just bought a Toyota

Post Script – ill be sure to pull this thread up down the road when this comment bites me in the arse lol

I’ve been thinking of doing the same. But I’m very unsure. The ram has been great. I see plenty of recall work on the Toyotas. That I haven’t had besides the air bags

I like RAMS. I like certain things about all the new trucks. Aside from the reputation Toyota has for dependability what I also liked about my 2021 Tundra is that it’s been essentially unchanged for 14 years.

That’s the problem with all these newer trucks. They put out new features and or a new model every 3 years and with every new model or refresh comes more technology that’s vulnerable to problems. I dont care about creature comforts. Give me 4×4, a tow package, a radio, and heat and I’m good to go. I will say the full roll down back window in the tundra is sweet though!!! cool

My next truck will get an extended warranty. Just to many things to go wrong on today’s vehicles and the reliability of them seems to be going down hill. My ProMaster cost me 5k in repairs this summer with 85000 miles on it. My last Silverado had some major engine issues luckly still under warranty. Already having work done on the new Silverado. That’s three vehicles in a row that I would of benefited from a extended warranty.

As far as the Silverado’s, I have heard from a lot of different people that GM has really gone downhill, unfortunately. Especially transmissions

The 10 speed tranny in the Ford and GM trucks is the same.
It was a combined effort between the 2 companies to design/build and they both are using it in their trucks.

Ahh. I actually do think I’ve heard that now that you mentioned it. Didnt know it was a combined effort. That’s different

We got about $10k in repairs on our last Suburban for the $2k we paid for extended. Passed on 2011 GMC. Made it 146,000 miles. No major repairs. Pretty basic truck. Bought it on my 2020 F150 eco-boost. Turbo etc, built in 2020, had me concerned. Bought 2 on Honda Pilots. Probably wouldn’t again. But it’s pretty reasonable compared to The Big Three vehicles. My dealer said they like Allstate better than Ford on the F150. Less haggling, and instant pay. Doing repairs for insurance companies for over 40 years. I would usually avoid Allstate like a case of the clap. But I see they are selling extended warranties on appliances and about anything you want. Would never have their auto insurance. Overall, probably a good reward/risk ratio for them. Asked a couple Ford dealers. Said they were fine with them, we’ll see. My neighbors new GMC just got his truck back the second time. Because of bent valves. The way things have been built the last 2 years. Not the same fuzzy feeling owning a new vehicle. They had it as much as he has, the last 6 months.

I read this thread when I was deciding if extended warranty was worth it on my 2020 F150. Well after the left door and 2/3rds of the dash went stone dead the first year I decided to do it. 36,200 miles my door locks quit. New latch and actuator on order. So far looks like a good choice. Also took $300 vanishing deductible. I paid it once up front, now no deduct the rest of the 125,000 miles if I take it to my dealer. One misconception I had. Weather my salesman was wrong, or I misunderstood. The extended warranty cost goes up every month you wait. My understanding was long as you did it before the factory warranty expired you were ok. Wrong, it went up about $800. So, if you want it get it up front. But I’m feeling good on my choice to buy it. The engine shut down when you stop, makes me see a few starters in my future. Hopefully not the whole engine like GM and Dodge are experiencing. Saw the new Fords and I believe Dodge have removed the feature till they figure it out.
