We found out late today that my son Ryan has received a full ride scholarship to the University of Minnesota to study chemical engineering!!! Not only is it a full ride, he gets $150 per month spending money and expenses paid for four round trips home each year!

We are so proud of him!

That is beyond badass. Being an alum from the U I can say that he is going to have a heck of a time. I truly think he has a better deal than any ball player that gets a full ride. Your son is GOING to go “pro” no matter what. Some athletes just play 4 years and then just exist. Tell him to stay away from Sallys Saloon. huge congrats man.

to your son. This only happens with HARD WORK. Congrats all around.

After graduation his choice won’t hurt either because as you know, the UM is one of the top CE schools in the nation.

Awesome! and the wife apparently must be pretty smart…

The $150 should barely cover all the Hogies he’ll be eating at the Big Ten Sub shop….

Great news Jeff! That is one heck of a sweet deal! I have worked with a boat load of chem engineers and they keep moving them up in the company. Lots of turnaround in a good way!
I know how much of a relief it is to have a child get a full ride. My daughter is on a full ride studying psychology. As long as she stays above a 3.5 gpa, she has four years with no tuition. That’s how I justified my new boat purchase.

    Jeff,

to you and the boy…you must be proud. I graduated chemEng from the U in ’95. if he brings his rods I’d be happy to take him out on P2 some day and talk differential equations…but if chemEng is still like it used to be…he won’t have time for fishing.

Thanks Everyone! He’s worked so hard! My only contribution has been to tell him a billion times to, “aim small, miss small”. That and annoy him with my constant harping about “community service”.

Ryan’s step-mom has already nixed the new boat. I thought I did a great job on my presentation. I call her The committee of “NO”.

sounds like you should have started asking for two boats, that way when you said you would settle for just one she would be happy to agree. I have a kid in his second year of a full ride in computer engineering and the job he interns at after classes pays $15.50 an hour, anmd he will end up with more on the job training than 90% of the kids in his class. Tell him to have the college experience and enjoy it, but this is his first real “job”
