What are your recommendations for a spinning reel. I am going to use it on a 7′ md power fast action St Croix premier rod for mainly slip bobber and lindy rig fishing.

February 28, 2010 at 3:02 am #847180Abu Cardinal 301 or 302. These are cheaper reels but I’ve had mine for about 5 years with no problems. This is my only Abu reel so far. The rest of mine are either Shimano sahara or symetres. The shimanos are smoother reels but I think that Cardinal is priced right for a durable reel. I think my next reel will be a Abu Soron SX on the series high end.
February 28, 2010 at 3:06 am #847181Shimano Symetres are very nice $100 reels…but the Pflueger President XT 30 series has all the bells and whistles, as smooth as my Symetres and about $25 cheaper.
There are some good reels out there in the $70-$80 range
Dean can show/sell ya several.mojogunterPosts: 3168February 28, 2010 at 3:28 am #847184I have slowly switched all of my spinning reels to Shimano Stradics.
February 28, 2010 at 1:56 pm #847256The new Phluger Arbor would fit that rod nicely and with the fatter spool it would make a great slip bobber rig.

March 1, 2010 at 12:26 pm #847496I’m partial to Daiwa Tournament SS 1300 reels .I have had mine for 20+ years , I love the folding handle feature and the drag system is second to none ! And I have never paid a penny for any reel repair if needed.. That’s hard to beat..

I did like the President XT reels last time I looked at them. Would I want the 6730XTX or the 6735XTX? I will be spooling up with 8 lb. mono most likely.
March 1, 2010 at 2:24 pm #847539I use primarily the 30 size myself. All the reels mentioned here are great products, but I have been very pleased with the line management benefits and the dollar value of the arbor thus far.
