If my battery is in an enclosed storage area in my boat and secured, do I still need to use a battery box? Cant seem to find answer in the regs.

I can’t say for sure but I don’t think so. In my boat, the factory location for the batteries just has them enclosed and secured. They are not in battery boxes.

Yes you do need to have a box, according to the warden we met on the water in St. Croix county this summer and said we needed a box for the batteries…he also said we needed a cover for both terminals, not sure why…(we also needed a throwable and a new fire extinguisher, glad we gotta outta that ticketless!!)

Wisconsin Regs specify the battery has to be strapped down, and the terminals need to be covered to prevent a spark, and a box with a strap is recommended but not manditory.
